When the Light Shone


note-Kari and TK are 18 so Tai is basically past university
Kari was so happy! TK had asked her out again! This time, it was to the Silver Spoon again. Kari was dancing around with joy.
"Kari!"Tai said as Kari bumped into him.
"Sorry, Tai! TK asked me out again!"Kari laughed with pleasure.
"I asked Sora out. Matt and Mimi are coming too,"Tai said.
"Ooooo......a romance, I suppose? Involving you and Sora?"Kari teased.
Tai blushed furiously. Kari ran to her room to avoid Tai. She ripped through her wardrobe. Sundresses, jeans, dress pants, cloth pants, tee shirts, blouses, jeans, long sleeved shirts, 3/4 length sleeve shirts, knits, sweaters, turtlenecks, tanks, fancy dresses...the wardrobe seemed endless...until...
"Aha! The perfect-o dress!"Kari exclaimed. TK will love it, she thought. It was pink and princess like, that shimmered when Kari walked. She put on her silver bracelet, her ring that TK gave her, and a gold and diamond necklace that Tai had bought her. It looked terribly expensive, but Tai said it was well worth it. Kari then looked at the clock. Dinner was at 6:30 and it was 5:45 right now! She sprayed her hair, pulled it back with diamond clips and grabbed her keys. She scribbled a note to Tai, then locked the door.

TK was horribly nervous. Usually he didn't dress up, but tonight he was wearing a tuxedo just for Kari. TK felt a ring in his pants pocket. Just then, Kari swept in through the door. TK waved. Kari saw him and swept to his table.
"You look absolutely fab, and stunning, I must say,"TK said in a fake English accent.
"As do you, I must add,"Kari said, playing along.
They talked and ate all they could. They then agreed to go to TK's place after. After Kari and TK paid the bill, Kari and TK left.


During Tai's double date, Matt said they could come to his place
"Any opposed?"Tai asked. Sora and Mimi shook their heads. "So moved,"he told Matt.

"Kari?"TK asked tensely.
"Mmm..yeah?"Kari asked, returning from dreamland to reality.
"I have...something...to..well......"TK started.
"Tell me and get it over with. You'll relax easier,"Kari replied.
"Well...Kari, I have something to confess. I really love you. I think you're smart, pretty, sweet and all that stuff. So, would................you ...well...um...would you like to go...steady?"
"I would really love that, Ishida Takeru,"Kari said. Then, Kari's crest glowed with a fierce light. TK knew that meant Kari was totally sincere.
"I wouldn't agree more, Yagami Hikari,"TK said. Now to attack, TK thought.
Kari...I'd like you to have this,"TK said, presenting a ring. "Oh yeah, don't tell Davis, or Daisuke, even though he has Jeni,"TK joked.
"I won't,"Kari laughed. "TK, the ring...it's beautiful."
"So, whazzzup?"TK said.
"Pray tell,"Kari said. TK was now quite casual, very odd, he just changed.
"The sky, and the clouds,"TK cracked.
"Ha-ha, very funny,"Kari said. "I know something we can talk about. Let's compare teachers to Digimon. On your first day in Odaiba Junior, you said our grade 7 teacher looked like an Ogremon."
"Oh yeah....."TK said. How Kari remembered all this was beyond him. "I hate school,"TK replied.
"You shouldn't."
"Why?"
"I dunno..."
"See! You don't know!
"See if I care, Takeru!"
"You don't deserve the crest of light!"
"You don't deserve to be a DigiDestined!"
"You don't deserve anything, Yagami Hikari!"
"TK!!!"Kari then stormed out of the room, knocking Sora over as she walked out of TK's apartment.
"TK! What happened?"Tai and Matt asked as Tai helped Sora up. "Wait. Don't tell me. You and Kari had a huge fight and you can't find a way to apologized. One word-chill. Just relax,"Matt insisted. Then Matt flipped the tube on.
"We interrupt this program to bring you an emergency broadcast,"a reporter said on the TV. "A blue car has been struck in a head-on collision with a black pickup at Main. The driver of the pickup has been identified as Davis Motimyia-"the reporter continued.
"Davis?!"Tai exclaimed.
"Shhh...."TK shushed.
"He has tested positive being drunk and high on drugs. He has survived minor cuts and bruises. However....wait!! This just in! We now have footage of the accident scene,"the reporter said. The screen flashed to a street where a body was being pulled out. The body looked awfully familiar...
"IT"S KARI!!!" Tai screamed.
"Oh no...."TK whispered.
"SHHHH!"Sora advised.
"Now back to the show..."the reporter said.
"We have to get to Main!"Tai shrieked.
In Matt's Jeep, TK, Tai and Matt held tears back. In the backseat Sora was sobbing with Mimi, who gave the occasional wail. When they got to Main, a policeman said that they couldn't enter the scene.
"Please,"Tai pleaded. "I'm Yagami Taichi and this is Ishida Takeru. I'm Yagami Hikari, the victim's brother and Takeru here is her boyfriend. Please, I beg you!"
The policeman said all right and Tai thanked him. Then he and TK ran towards the stretcher.
"I'm so sorry. She is gone,"a paramedic said.
"No! It can't be!"Tai said. His tears soaked a white sheet with blood on it. Kari's blood. His sister's.
"NO!!!!!"TK screamed for all for Odaiba to hear. All those good times. He'd never see her alive again. Kari's laugh and her smile, he thought. Lost in darkness forever.
TK and Tai returned to Matt's Jeep.
"She's gone,"Tai whispered.
"It can't be!"Sora said.
"There must be some mistake. Are Kari, gone forever?"Mimi said.
"Yes..."Tai whispered.
"NO!! I REFUSE TO BELIEVE IT!!!"Matt screamed.
"Matt! Get a hold of yourself,"Tai said. Then he punched Matt.
"Thanks. I needed that. Sorry Tai..."Matt said quietly.
Tk didn't go to the funeral. It was too hard. He left flowers at her grave every week. He thought, She had just found out. Now it can never be. A tear from his eyes dropped on the petals then dripped on the grass. Then his tears came pouring. He just sat on the gravestone for a hour, just thinking about Kari. His tears became slower, then gradually stopped. In the end though, he was never the same because of himself. He had always blamed himself or Daisuke for Kari's passing. He knew though it wasn't him. He still thought it though.

note-even though I scrap Kari, she's not gone. This was just an idea so I used it. Trust me, there will be more KariFics to come.
